Description: Small to medium size, round, oblate or oblong-oval, rough-surfaced, with a fairly thick, aromatic, green bitter peel when young, becoming bright reddish-orange on maturity, and having minute, sunken oil glands. The pale orange flesh is firm, contains a few to many small, inedible seeds, and is divided into 10 - 12 segments.
More Info: Native to Eastern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Syria, and Southeast Asia, sour orange is now grown throughout the Mediterranean region and elsewhere, including California and Florida. Many varieties of sour orange are used for their essential oil and are found in perfume, used as a flavoring or as a solvent. It's also for regular consumption and employed in herbal medicine as a stimulant and appetite suppressant.
